Possible Przybilla Rumors Bring Hope, But Won't Change Anything For Portland

After Portland’s convincing win of the season last night against the short handed San Antonio Spurs (without Ginobili, Parker & Duncan), Jason Quick of The Oregonian reported that Joel Przybilla could be heading back to Portland. For many Blazers fans, they are likely expecting a Nate Wilson-like scenario (reference to John Salley’s character in the movie “Eddie,” more on this later). However, the likely outcome seems to be one that will only contribute to more chaos in Rip City. “The Thrilla” has and will always be one of the most popular players in Blazers history. As ridiculous as it sounds, [...]

Pop, The Old Firm and Co.'s Rodeo Magic: The Spurs' Success No One Is Talking About

While the NBA world is revolving around the  “Linsanity” phenomenon, a familiar group known for doing things a quiet , fundamental way are setting the NBA on fire almost unnoticed. The San Antonio Spurs are on a 9-game win streak and are five games into their yearly Rodeo road-trip, which is nine games long this season. The Spurs have been on a tear. It’s not just that they are winning, but in the impressive fashion they are winning. The Spurs wins include victories against Oklahoma City, at Memphis and at Philadelphia, by an average of 9.6 points. Everyone is going “Linsane”, [...]

Wesley Matthews: Where'd You Go?

The Blazers can’t seem to find consistency and Rip City is searching for answers as to why they haven’t been able to get it together, having gone 6-8 in their last 14 games after a great start. The common excuses are “they just can’t do it away from the Rose Garden”, “they can’t find a leader”, “nobody can lead them in the fourth quarter”, “new addition Jamal Crawford is playing poorly in comparison to his career numbers,” and all of those may be valid points. Perhaps more importantly, it has been the absence of the Wesley Matthews that Blazers’ fans [...]

Dwight Howard's Needs Are Right Under His Nose

Orlando’s all-world center has added the Los Angeles Clippers to his “list”along with Dallas and the Lakers for preferred trade destinations. It’s also reported that he’s now “soured” on the New Jersey Nets. While all this is going on, the Orlando Magic have risen to the top of the Southeast division at 9-3. Howard’s demands to leave seem perplexing and selfish, to say the least. Orlando probably wouldn’t get enough value for him, but more importantly, this Orlando team is showing shades of brilliance. It’s also likely the team he goes to will have to dismantle much of it’s core talent [...]

After Two Weeks, What Have We Learned From The NBA?

LeBron James is still a machine: Although he has been hurt, LeBron James has been on a tear so far this season. So far, he is averaging 30.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 7.1 assists. The most impressive part about it is he is shooting a blistering 60% and has only taken two 3-pointers so far this season. According to Synergy, he ranks 2nd in the NBA early season in post up points per possession (PPP) with 1.22, is 2nd in transition points and 8th in isolation situation with .9 PPP. Kobe’s new knee made him even more “Kobe-like” and the Lakers [...]

Carlisle Needs To Take Off The Kid Gloves With Beaubois

Much has been made about Lamar Odom’s lack of production in Dallas recently, but the key to figuring things out to might be a familiar face forgotten by playoff and championship glory. Only a year ago, Rodrigue Beaubois was supposed to be Dallas’ point guard of the future (or “PGOF” since that phrase is used so much it deserves it’s own acronym). An injury plagued season and a championship later, Beaubois is now playing behind two newly acquired guards in the rotation, Delonte West and Vince Carter. Beaubois has played a combined 25 minutes in Dallas’ two blow-out losses. Dallas’ losses [...]

NBA 2011-12 Season Awards and Championship Predictions

MVP: LeBron James. The up-tempo makeover for the Heat offense should lead to even better numbers for James, and perhaps an even better record for number one overall seed. If that happens, James has got to be the front-runner for the award. Watch list: Chris Paul, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose Sleeper: Carmelo Anthony Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard. I said this last year around award season and I’ll say it again, Howard should win this award until he can no longer jump anymore. He is the biggest defensive force there is in the game today, and there is [...]

NBA Season Preview 2011-12: Southeast Division

Teams are put in order of projected finish Miami Heat: Despite what LeBron James said about year one being a failure, the Heat exceeded expectations. James played the best basketball of his career against the Celtics and Bulls in the playoffs, but the same could not be said for his performance in the Finals which is what everyone will remember. James was not the same player and failed to put his team over-the-top with his his fourth quarter struggles, which may have been due to the amount of minutes he was playing, as James was sixth in minutes played last year. [...]
